Our Story

How it all started...

In the aftermath of the US Civil War, black members of  a christian church in Carrollton, Georgia requested a letter of dismissal in order to organize their own church.  Hence, the First Baptist Church was organized. The initial church building was located on Bankhead Avenue in Carrollton, Georgia, just beyond the intersection of Newnan Street and Bankhead Avenue, and then known as Chestnut Hill. The Rev. Edmond Amey was the  founder and first pastor of First Baptist Church of Carrollton. He built the church on a strong foundation of faith and prayer that continues to this day.

Expanding the vision...

In January of 2022, First Baptist Church of Carrollton called Rev. Cedric Duncan as its new pastor. Since this organization has been established, many hardships have been experienced, many tears have been shed and many prayers have ascended for its success. Let us not forget the joy and happiness, which have come to so many through this organization. Our ancestors worked hard and prayed diligently for its success. May we strive to make dreams and hopes become realities serving our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Where we are headed...

Since 1873, the Gospel has been preached at First Baptist Church of Carrollton, Georgia.  Lives have been transformed, and communities have been positively impacted by people being guided by the Holy Spirit.
As we engage in serving this present age , our message, mission, and motive remains consistent with the early church. We educate ourselves about God with the Bible as our guide. We empower believers to be disciplined in the faith. We encourage a lifestyle that pleases God as we sojourn through life’s journey.
Our goal is to be a community of love for God, humanity, and the earth.
